Biography[edit]

Dustin Myers was born August 28, 1984 in Riverside, Ca. Growing up, much time was spent at the body shop that his family owned. Being around paint and body work gave him his first exposure to color and form.

Dustin graduated with a BFA in drawing and painting from California State University Fullerton in 2011. While attending a school that focused on contemporary art, most technical education was self-taught. Visits to the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena gave him his first glimpse at the illusion the Old Masters were able to conjure up. Combining this technique with more contemporary application and color use, a harmonious middle ground was formed.

Mimicking the Flemish painting technique, transparent paint is juxtaposed next to opaque paint to give a true illusion of depth. The only downfall to such a technique is the difficulty to capture this in a photographed reproduction. Paintings are made to be seen in person. Other than creating gallery paintings, Dustin also enjoys painting murals and creating live art.

Working at the Art Supply Warehouse in Westminster, Ca while going to school gave him the opportunity to research and understand different products and techniques.

While away from the easel, most free time is spent either reading or in the company of his best friend of a younger brother in the garage.
