Biography

Kim Mayhew is a self-taught artist. Born in 1956 in Los Angeles, California, Kim was exposed to art from a very early age. Her mother ,being an artist, always had art supplies available to Kim.....crayons, paint, clay, paper, etc and encouraged her to develop her artistic talent. Even on family trips, crayons and paper always accompanied Kim. Years of artistic expression continued to develop her talent. The only formal art training she has is in sculpture and ceramics at Riverside Community College where she excelled. Her most satisfying accomplishment to date is being the artist/owner of Ant Farm Studio. Her little black ants are whimsical and fun and are guaranteed to bring a smile. Her work has been in shows and she is always creating new works. She has published a successful coloring book, calendar, has ACEOs and originals on E-Bay, and has a second coloring book and children's book in the works to be published in the near future. She is internationally known and has now branched off with her new line called "Loco Folko"..... Mexican inspired folk art, jewelry, and furniture featuring bright colors and including themes linked to Frida Kahlo and Dia de los Muertos imagery. Her "Loco Folko" is displayed here on her website and also on FaceBook under Ant Farm Studio. She is active in the high desert art culture and committed to promoting local art and artists. Her original greeting cards are available in several stores throughout the Morongo Basin. She also does commission work.

Kim is now a professional artist full-time. She lives in Yucca Valley, CA with her husband Larry, two dogs-Sadie and Maggie, and their cat-Onyx. They all share a home with Kim's mom, Marcena.
